'Don’t blame us for company’s wrongdoings'

State Planning Board member C P John who has been made a member of the 10-member expert to suggest measures to address the issues related to MLM companies is the president of the Amway Distributors Association of India (ADAI).

John feels that distributors should not be penalised for wrongdoings of the company.  “Either you ban the entire activities of MLM companies in the state by revising the Prizes and Money Circulation (Banning Act) 1978 with stringent law or make it legal,’’ said C P John, who is also the secretary of Communist Marxist Party (CMP), a coalition partner of the UDF.  “No matter how it is generated, quick money is illegal. However, the distributors should not be made accountable for the wrongdoings of the company. People should be given appropriate provision for the doing direct selling business legally,’’ said John.  The expert committee on MLM, of which C P John is a part, is yet to convene its first sitting. The committee was constituted by the State Government on February 19, 2013. Economist K N Harilal said:  “Its important that every trade is transparent, legal and businessmen should always come out and be accountable. Shady business and deals would lead to tension in the society.”
