The portraits of four stalwarts of Kerala politics were unveiled in the old Assembly Hall of the state Secretariat complex on Wednesday. The life-size oil painting portraits of former Chief Ministers K Karunakaran, P K Vasudevan Nair, C H Mohammed Koya and E K Nayanar were unveiled at a solemn ceremony.
Unveiling the portraits, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said: ‘’I am privileged to be present in the Assembly when all these four leaders were serving as chief ministers’’.
‘’I personally know the social commitment of P K Vasudevan Nair. We were together members of the Assembly when K Karunakaran was the Chief Minister. The first time I approached C H Mohammed Koya was as a student leader.
He had implemented many far-reaching reforms in the education sector of the state. And about Nayanar, he had found a place in the hearts of all with his character and charisma,’’ Chandy recalled. Rural Affairs Minister K C Joseph who spoke at the function, gave a special mention about the absence of Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan at the function.
He said that the function is one which is above politics and VS should also have graced the occasion.
