Kollam Technopark Building Neglected

The Technopark building at Mulavana in Kundara, constructed by spending crores of rupees, has been lying in a state of neglect owing to the apathy of officials concerned. The high-rise, elegant building was inaugurated three years ago. Lack of proper road connectivity is the key reason pointed out by the officials for this neglect. The 900-metre road which connects Kristu Raj Junction to Technopark has not been finished so far.

As many as nine companies approached the officials at the Technopark for starting their business but the unfinished road led to delay in beginning business.

Twixt Technologies Private Limited expanded their business in Kollam and bought space here. However, lack of road connectivity is disrupting their business.

When contacted, Technopark officials blamed PWD for the inordinate delay in finishing the work. “Though many companies approached us to expand their business at the Technopark here, lack of proper road connectivity affected the business. We already paid the amount to the PWD for finishing the road work. However, nothing has been done so far,” said Vasudevan M, senior manager, Business Development at the Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram.

He also said that lack of power supply and water were other issues. “These issues were solved months back and once the road becomes ready we would be able to function smoothly,” Vasudevan said.

The PWD officials said that land acquisition issues and the dispute with the contractor delayed the road works. However, they assured of starting the works within a week.

“In the beginning, we couldn’t acquire land for the road owing to resistance from local people. Now it has been solved. After this, the contractor disagreed over the amount fixed and we submitted a fresh proposal agreeable to him,” said Rajeev D N, executive engineer of the PWD. He said that the road works would begin without much delay.
