Medical college managements association to move SC over admission row

Admission to MBBS seats in management quota in eight private medical colleges under the Kerala Private Medical College Managements Association (KPCMCA) is likely to become a troublesome affair, with the KPCMCA office bearers making it clear that they would not cooperate with the entrance exam scheduled to be held on July 21 in Kochi. However, the Admission Supervisory Committee headed by Justice K M James said that the exam would be held on the scheduled date itself.

Though the committee has announced the date of the fresh examination, the Managements Association has not handed over details of candidates to the committee yet. The exam is being held under the supervision of the Commissioner of Entrance Examination.

As per the order of the High Court, the managements had to submit the details by July 4. “The managements had sent a letter asking to keep the exam in abeyance as they wanted to move the Supreme Court challenging the decision of the HC to up hold nullification of the first exam. Managements expect a stay on the HC order from the apex Court. Since we cannot predict the decision of the Supreme Court, it has been decided to go ahead with the proceedings to conduct the exam even if managements refuse to cooperate”, said a key official of the committee. He added that the committee was in possession of admit cards issued to candidates who attended the May 31 exam. Therefore it will not be difficult to identify the candidates and inform them about the exam on July 21. Besides, more than 300 students who were issued admit cards, but could not attend the previous exam can appear for the exam on July 21”, committee authorities said.
