

Several stalwarts of state politics cast their votes at various booths in the district on Thursday. Most of them preferred to vote in the morning and reached booths in the early hours of polling.
CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, wife Kamala, son Vivek Kiran and daughter cast their votes at the RC Amala UP School at Pinarayi. Pinarayi and family who arrived at 7.40 am had to wait for about 40 minutes in the queue.
CPM politburo member Kodiyeri Balakrishnan cast his vote at the Kodiyeri Junior Basic School where he had studied for five years. Kodiyeri and family, including wife Vinidhini, sons Binoy and Bineesh and daughters-in-law Rineetta and Akhila stayed in the queue for an hour.
CPI state secretary Pannian Ravindran voted at the Korjan UP School, Kakkad near Kannur town.
UDF candidate K Sudhakaran cast his vote in Kannur St Michael’s Anglo Indian School while the LDF’s P K Sreemathi’s vote was in Kasargod constituency.
She voted at Neruvambram U P School, Pazhayangadi. Union minister and UDF candidate in Malappuram, E Ahamed cast his vote at Anayidukku Upper Primary School in Kannur. LDF Vadakara constituency candidate A N Shamseer along with parents Usman and Sareena, sister Ameena and brother Shahir cast vote by 7.20 am at Paral Lower Primary School.
Minister for Agriculture K P Mohanan was the first voter at Puthoor LP School. INL state president S A Puthiyavalappil cast his vote at the BEMP Higher Secondary School in Thalassery by 10 am.
Thalassery Archbishop voted at Koduvally Govt Vocational Higher Secondary School.
