Cricketer Sanju V Samson’s vacant residence at Vizhinjam, near here, was broken into twice within a week and several trophies and mementos are reportedly missing.

Sanju and his family had moved to their new house at Muttathara, leaving his old residence at Kadakulam Road at Vizhinjam vacant.

According to the Vizhinjam police, the family came to know about the second break-in when they visited the house on Thursday, while they were at Vizhinjam to cast their votes.

Several trophies won by Sanju and his brother Sally at different cricket tournaments, including the Man of the Match Awards from the Indian Premier League, were reportedly defaced.

Copper portions of various trophies were found to be missing.

Samson Vishwanath, Sanju’s father, had come to know of an earlier break-in when he visited the house on Sunday, but he did not report the incident to the police as no valuables were lost, they said.

The first attempt was made on last Saturday, but the thieves could not get past the kitchen door after entering the house by twisting an iron window grill of the kitchen, the police said.

However, on the second attempt, the thieves went in through the staircase, which opened to the roof.

Vizhinjam police have registered a case and are investigating the incident.

Fingerprint bureau has also collected evidence from the scene.

Sanju is currently playing for Kerala in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Twenty20 tournament in Mumbai, where he is also attending the Rajasthan Royals camp ahead of the new season of the Indian Premier League.
