National Service Scheme (NSS) cadets, current and former, cannot forget the official song of the scheme, Manassu Nannavatte that instils the spirit of brotherhood, and calls for life in harmony with the universe.

The song is entering its 25th year now. At a time when educational institutions under different religions are following prayer songs that suit their particular religions, NSS offers to include their official song, too.

“There is a need to inculcate a secular feeling among children. Currently there are NSS units in vocational higher secondary schools and colleges. We have forwarded a request to Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb to include the song in all educational institutions,” says Malabar Christian College former NSS programme officer Varghese Mathew.
