When the Kerala State Film Awards for the year 2013-14 were announced on Saturday, the city of letters had a lot to cheer, with two awards in its kitty.

While Bobby and Sanjay won the award for the best screenplay, Vaikom Vijayalakshmi got the award for the best playback singer.

This is the second time the honour of state film award coming the ‘cinema family’ of Bobby and Sanjay.

Bobby and Sanjay are sons of actor Prem Prakash. When the award was announced, elder brother Bobby, who is a doctor by profession, was attending patients at a private hospital in Kottayam, and Sanjay was in Thiruvananthapuram with some personal matters.

When the ‘star brothers’ arrived in the afternoon, the house of the ‘cinema family’ (Prem Prakash is the younger brother of the late Jose Prakash) at S H Mount, Kottayam, cheered up.

The duo was selected for the award for the screenplay they wrote for the film ‘Mumbai Police’. In 2011, they had received award for the screenplay for the trendsetter movie ‘Traffic’.

Bobby and Sanjay, who entered into screenplay writing with ‘Ente Veedu Appoontem’ in 2003, has worked for a handful of good movies, including ‘Notebook’, ‘Ayalaum Njanum Thammil’,  and Mumbai Police. Four of the films, for which they wrote screenplays, were directed by Rosshan Andrrews. Their upcoming project with Rosshan Andrrews ‘How Old Are You’ has already hit the headlines for the second-coming of ace actor Manju Warrier after a long break.

Sanjay, who was a guest lecturer at the CMS College, Kottayam, has now dedicated all his time for films. The duo’s sister Thankam has also made her presence in the film field by singing a song for ‘Ente Veedu Appoontem’.

Meanwhile, Vaikom Vijayalakshmi was chosen for the award for best playback singer (female) for her outstanding song ‘Ottayakku Padunna...’ for the film Nadan. Earlier, Vijayalakshmi had won special jury award for her much-appreciated work in the movie ‘Celluloid’.
