'Mythical Fantasy' to Pay Tribute to CN

KOCHI: As part of commemorating C N Karunakaran, the works of globally acclaimed artist will be promoted as one among the 14 collateral projects as part of the Kochi Muziris Biennale 2014. 

The 43-day show, an exhibition of 45 popular paintings by the master titled ‘Mythical Fantasy’ will be inaugurated on Sunday, his the first death anniversary.

Incidentally, it will be the inaugural show of the Artry Gallery Kochi, and these 14 projects will run parallel to the Biennale at Hotel Manor on KB Jacob Road, Fort Kochi. 

According to managing director Haseena Suresh, Artry aims to act as a cultural bridge across Arabian sea and takes what India and the world will offer. “We are planning a show of KG Subramaniam in Dubai along with a series of art talks,   including that of Artist Gigi Scaria and showcase the best of both the worlds in the years to come,” she said. Artry, launched in Dubai a few months ago, is a conglomeration of Dubai-based Malayalees, either artists or ardent art lovers. It has a studio and gallery in Al Quoz, the nerve centre of Dubai’s art scene.“At present, there are 14 artists associated with Artry. It will serve as a platform to showcase all forms of visual hub of art enthusiasts and other creative people across the region,” said Vimala Narayanan, Artery director.  She also released the brochure of ‘Mythical Fantasy’ here on Thursday by handing it over to  Ayilyan, son of Karunakaran.CN, as he is popularly known, had initiated ‘Chitrakootam’, the first private art gallery in the state. His fine art spanning an unrivaled six decades has been widely exhibited in India, Brazil, the US, Vienna and Kuwait. He had also worked as art director for Malayalam movies ‘Ashwathama’, ‘Ore Thooval Pakshikal’, ‘Akkare’, ‘Purushartham’ and ‘Aaleesinte Anweshanam’. The show will be open from 10 am to 7 pm till January 25, 2015 at the 1800 sqft Artry Gallery.
