State Revels and Rejoices in the Scintillating Spirit of Christmas

THRISSUR: The cultural capital is all set to celebrate Christmas with a bevy of programmes. The scintillating spirit of Christmas has already pervaded every nook and corner of the city, with Churches, religious institutions and families setting up cribs and Christmas trees on house and church premises and streets.

The eve of the Christmas also reverberated in carol songs and drum beats, besides cityscapes were dotted with a Santa Claus look-alike and illuminated buildings with lights and hanging stars.Though a lot of programmes have been organised in connection with the Christmas, the Chief among them was the Boun Nathale, 2014 event, on Saturday, billed as biggest ever Christmas carol parade in the world featuring around 30,000 santas and angels. Selected 30,000 santas, guardian angels, stilt walkers, and singing angels will dance down along the Swraj Round of the cultural capital humming with Christmas carols songs to the accompaniment of various music instruments including 10 western band sets, radiating cheer, hope, and the spirit of giving on the day.

 Apart from santas, the city will also see a gathering of around 2,000 girls dressed up as holy angels, camel with kings hundreds of other artists, and numerous floats depicting various socio-cultural events, the life of Christ and themes based on Bible as part of the event. According to organisers, around five lakhs people cutting across religious barriers are expected to greet the carol party.

Arrangements have also been made to provide world record certificates to all the members who take part in the event. The Archdiocese of Thrissur, in association with Thrissur Povravali, will organize the biggest ever Christmas carol parade in the country on the streets of the cultural capital on December 27, which would bring the curtain down for the Christmas celebration in the district.

Besides, there are also special midnight masses in 230 odd churches in the cultural capital in the midnight of Christmas Eve. Gifts and sweets will be distributed among believers after the midnight masses, remembering the spirit of giving.
