Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan on Friday welcomed the expulsion of K C Ramachandran, one of the convicts in the T P Chandrasekharan murder case, from the CPM, based on a probe held under the supervision of Politburo.

However, speaking to mediapersons at Kottarakkara a few hours later, VS called the probe report incomplete and reiterated his stance that the killing was political.

“When the slain Chandrasekharan had politics and his killers also had politics of their own how could one say that it was not a political murder?,” he said.

He also expressed displeasure over the party not initiating action against two other convicts Kunhananthan and ‘Trouser Manoj’.

In a statement issued here on Friday morning, VS said the party has executed the promise made by CPM general secretary Prakash Karat,  that if party men had any role in the TP murder, they would not be retained. The inquiry commission appointed by the CPM central committee under the supervision of  politburo had found that K C Ramachandran, Kunnummakkara Local Committee member of the party was guilty, on the basis of which he was expelled.

Achuthanandan said the finding by the inquiry commission that the murder of TP resulted from  personal enmity is just one of the conclusions of the probe team.

“If there remains anything more to be revealed, it can be done through another party-level probe,” he said.

Commending the national leadership of the CPM for bringing out the involvement of a party local committee member and ordering his expulsion, VS wanted to know which other  political party in the country could claim having taken such a bold step.

Pointing out the case of a woman who was allegedly raped and murdered inside a Congress party office and later dumped in a pond, he said the Congress party failed to facilitate a similar probe in the case.
