The All-Kerala LPG Truck and Tank Lorry Dealers, Owners and Workers Coordination Committee has decided to go on a state-level indefinite strike from Monday.

The strike has been called demanding cancellation of the government order seeking mandatory appointment of two drivers and a sweeper for intra-state movement of bullet lorries.

“The order is useful for inter-state movement of tanker lorries when the distance and the time needed for travel is long. However, it is not feasible to appoint two drivers for movement of the bullet lorries within the state itself. We won’t concede to this order,” said M Ibrahimkutty, convener of the coordination committee.

The committee also raised their displeasure over the government order stating that the lorries are not allowed to be in service from 8 am to 11 am and between 4 pm to 6 pm.

“The government should also revoke orders seeking that the District Medical Board should be responsible in renewing the driving license,” the members said. “The government states a mandatory distance of at least 30 metres between tanker lorries. This unscientific order should also be revoked,” they said.
