Plea to Revoke Liquor Ban for Pooram Dismissed

The HC on Friday dismissed the appeal filed by the Kerala State Beverages Corporation (KSBC) and bar owners challenging the order of Thrissur District Collector prohibiting the supply and sale of all types of liquor or any intoxicant drug within Thrissur Corporation limits in the wake of ‘Pooram’.

The HC on Friday dismissed the appeal filed by the Kerala State Beverages Corporation (KSBC) and bar owners challenging the order of Thrissur District Collector prohibiting the supply and sale of all types of liquor or any intoxicant drug within Thrissur Corporation limits in the wake of ‘Pooram’.

The Collector had ordered ban on sale of liquor from Friday till 2 pm on Saturday.  A Division Bench comprising Justice K Surendramohan and Justice Anil K Narendran passed the order and held that there was no need to interfere in the order of the Single Judge upholding the decision of the District Collector. The Court dismissed the petition of KSBC, Hotel Niya Regency, Hotel Dass Continental, Kangappadan Residency, Joys Palace, Thrissur Towers and Banerjee Club. The Bench observed that the District Collector passed the order after due consideration.
