The US Consulate General in Mumbai has empanelled Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre, Kochi, as an official medical examining facility for the US Consulate General, for persons seeking visas to travel to the US.

Officials at the Immigrant Visa Unit, US Consulate General, Mumbai & CDC (Centre for Disease Control, USA) felt that AIMS has the potential to be a US-panel site to perform immigration medical examination and they have recommended the facilities at Amrita to become part of the US panel and to conduct medical examination for all US visa applicants.

Applicants from the Kerala region are likely to benefit from this move as they will not have to travel all the way to Chennai or Mumbai for medical examination.

A designated area (Comprehensive Health Check-up Clinic) at AIMS is being used for immigration medical examination.

A designated panel of physicians, who are experts on CDC technical instructions and have the approval of the US Consulate General Mumbai and the United States Public Health Service, will perform the medical and physical examination.

TB screening

The Amrita TB laboratory has the facilities for TB screening, diagnosis and treatment as well as plan for administering directly observed therapy to applicants who are identified with TB.

CDC has imparted comprehensive training to the designated doctors and laboratory staff for the purpose.

AIMS is now also approved by CDC to conduct AFB sputum smear and culture tests for visa medical applicants who require further  investigation. For more information, contact 0484-2853782 or healthcheck@aims.amrita.edu.
