KOLLAM: Sara Williams, who remained a fugitive after faking her own death to con a UK-based insurance company, was arrested in Chennai after 13 years of hiding. Sara Williams, 45, wanted by the Interpol, was arrested from the Chennai airport and was remanded in the Puzhal Prison for Women there. Sara is allegedly involved in an insurance fraud case in which she swindled lakhs from the NatWest Bank in the UK after producing her own fake death certificate. The arrest was carried out by the immigration officials as directed by the Interpol.
She was then handed over to the Kerala Crime Branch. On Saturday she was produced before Punalur Judicial Magistrate Court. Sara, hailing from Pathekkar in Punlaur, is accused of fabricating fake death certificate from Punalur Municipality to perform the hoax. Police had arrested another Sara the other day. However, the relatives of that lady had come forward with claims that the arrest was a case of mistaken identity.
