THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan on Tuesday called for a comprehensive probe into the death of a nursing student at KIMS Hospital recently.
He said in a release that though he had sent a letter to the Home Minister in this regard a week ago, no steps had been taken yet.
He said KIMS Hospital authorities had stated that Roji Roy, Robin Bhavan, Puthuyikkal, Nedumpana, Kollam, who was a second-year nursing student of the hospital, had committed suicide by jumping from the 10th floor of the hospital.
However, the parents of the girl had said that there was no reason for the girl to commit suicide and alleged that it was the mental harassment by hospital authorities that led to her death.
The relatives also pointed out that the hospital authorities had delayed confirming the death and the police and authorities showed undue haste in conducting the inquest and shifting the body from the hospital. The parents had alleged that there was mystery behind the absence of the hospital authorities at the funeral of the girl and denying the students to see the body. He said a comprehensive probe only would help unearth the facts behind the death of Roji Roy.
