KOZHIKODE: A security man deployed at a shopping mall multiplex on Mavoor Road was killed, allegedly following a scuffle over distribution of movie tickets on Monday. Police have taken two persons into custody.
The victim Sathyaprakash, 49, a head guard was on duty at the Film City in RP Mall.
Bibin and Bibeesh, employees of Sapphire multiplex of Film City, also sustained severe injuries and are undergoing treatment at a hospital in the city.
City Police Commissioner said that two persons - Sarjas and Ajmal - have been taken into custody. “We are examining the CCTV visuals. We expect the real picture to emerge from the footage as the spot where the incident occurred is under CCTV surveillance. It is learnt that sudden provocation led to the scuffle between the gang and the employees of the multiplex,” he said.
N Mohandas, another security employee, said that the gang assaulted Bibin and Bibeesh following an argument over ticket reservation for the show at 3.15 pm of the movie Vellimoonga.
“Sathyaprakash, who witnessed the altercation in front of the ticket counter, intervened in the issue. He fell down following the tussle and his head hit the wall. The incident occurred around 2.30 pm,” he said. Shop employees at RP Mall said that Sarjas, partner of Amigos, a readymade shop located in the same floor as that of the Film City, had entrusted Ajmal to book five tickets for the family of another partner of the firm for the 3.15 pm show.
However, by mistake he had reserved ticket for the show at 12.45 pm. As there was heavy rush, the employees informed Ajmal and others that they could not issue tickets for the 3.15 pm show as all tickets were sold out.
The argument over the ticket soon turned to all-out attack. Sathyaprakash was injured when he tried to disperse them. ACP (South) A J Babu said the police has registered a case and a detailed probe is on.
