THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: I have not made any major contributions to this industry apart from grasping the film techniques during my film career, said noted writer and filmmaker M T Vasudevan Nair. He was addressing the gathering after receiving the J C Daniel award from Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, during a function held at Kanakakunnu Palace here on Friday.
“Film was never on my mind, in fact initially I was reluctant to even start a career in this industry. It was my friends who persuaded me to take up a career in this industry almost 50 years back,” said M T Vasudevan Nair.
“All these years I have merely been studying and grasping the various aspects of films. I don’t and can’t believe that I have made any significant contribution to this industry.I am happy to be a part of this industry which is witnessing novel changes everyday. I am honoured to receive this prestigious award named after J C Daniel, who has made some major contributions to the Malayalam cinema industry,” M T Vasudevan Nair said, after receiving the award comprising a purse of `1 lakh, a statuette and a citation. The 44th State Film Awards were also distributed in the star-studded function. The award for best actor was given to Lal for his performances in ‘Ayal’ and ‘Zakkariyayude Garbinikal.’ The award carries a cash prize of `37,500, a citation and a statuette. Ann Augustine received the best actress award. Director Sudevan received the award for best film from Chief Minster for his movie ‘CR. no. 89.’ The other awards were also distributed in the function.
Cinema Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Health Minister V S Sivakumar, K Muraleedharan MLA, Mayor K Chandrika, District Collector Biju Prabhakar, Kerala State Chalachithra Academy chairman Rajeev Nath and vice-chairman Joshy Mathew were present.Best Male Singer Award, which was mired in controversy, was not distributed at the function.
