ICCONS Gets NABH Accreditation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Institute for Communicative and Cognitive Neurosciences (ICCONS), Shornur, has received the accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH).

 ICCONS has become the first institute in the country to get the NABH accreditation for a centre that treats cognitive, speech and language disorders, Health Minister V S Sivakumar said.

 He also pointed out 16 institutes, including seven in the government sector, had received the NABH accreditation till now.

 ICCONS is considered to be one of the best institutes in Asia for treatment of Developmental Dysphasia, Learning Disability, Developmental Gerstman Syndrome (DGS), Autism, Rett Syndrome, Asperger’s Syndrome, Landau Kleffner Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, mental retardation, hearing loss and dementia.

 The Minister said that the accreditation was received  after Institute for Communicative and Cognitive Neurosciences (ICCONS) went for a facelift.   Modern laboratory facilities were added to the hospital. Much infrastructure development had taken place at the centre and quality of service was also enhanced, the Health Minister said.

 Earlier, Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram; General Hospital, Ernakulam; Women and Children  Hospital (Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode), Taluk Hospital, Cherthala and Aluva Blood Bank had bagged the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals.
