THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The truckowners’ stir which had been going on for the last six days was called off.
According to the agreement reached at the meeting held with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Finance Minister K M Mani here on Monday evening, the checking counters at Walayar checkpost will be increased from 12 to 14. The counters will remain open round-the-clock. On the Gujarat model, scanners will be installed here.
For solving the drinking water scarcity, a sum of Rs 12 lakh will be spent to ensure water.
Likewise, CCTV cameras will be installed to monitor the goods movement. Efforts will also be made to expedite the acquisition of 30 acres of land which has been stayed by the High Court. The Advocate-General will be asked to vacate the stay on this case. Efforts would be made to acquire 15 acres of land near the checkpost.
National Highways Authority India (NHAI) will be provided sufficient amount to expand the service roads to park 200 vehicles.
E-toilets will be installed. The government weigh bridge at Walayar will be made functional.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy assured the truckowners’ union leaders that the state government would monitor the progress in implementing the decisions.
Finance Additional Chief Secretary K M Abraham, Taxes Secretary W R Reddy, various department heads and truck owners’ union leaders also attended the meeting.
