KOCHI:The seven new judges who have joined the Bench at the Kerala High Court include an engineering graduate and a PG Diploma holder in Journalism, in addition to being law graduates.

The swearing in ceremony of the judges, which was held on Friday, also had some peculiarities.

It was for the first time seven judges were sworn in on a single day at the Kerala High Court. With the latest swearing-in, the court has got its total allotted quota of 38 judges. On Friday, District and Sessions Judges B Sudheendra Kumar, Sunil Thomas, K P Jyotheendranath and Mary Joseph; and High Court lawyers Shaji P Chaly, Anu Sivaraman and Raja Vijayaraghavan were sworn in as judges in the Kerala HC.     Justice Raja Vijayaraghavan became the first judge to hold a BTech degree (Eivil Engineering, from TKM College of Engineering, 1985-1989 batch). Justice Anu Shivaraman is a PG Diploma holder in Journalism from the Kerala Press Academy, Kakkanad, in the 1986-1987 batch.

After completing engineering degree, Raja joined at Law Academy, Thiruvananthapuram. Anu Sivaraman completed law degree from Ernakulam Law College in 1987-90.   Justice Anu Shivaraman is daughter of former Kerala High Court Judge Justice V Sivaraman Nair.   Chief Justice Ashok Bhushan administered the oath of office. Advocate General K P Dandapani, Kerala High Court Advocates Association president John Varghese and Director General of Prosecution T Asaf Ali  were also present.
