

TIRUVALLA:The touchscreen in front of the panchayat office is enough to say all about the Eraviperoor panchayat. It is the touch stone of the achievements it has made in the last four years including the ISO certification by implementing Total Quality Management. It is a long list in the touchscreen as one can trace the file movement and information, information on the services provided by the office and the procedure for filing of applications for the service concerned.
“We had presented all our major achievements of local self government to the award committee,” said N Rajeev, pancahayat president. Records and documents of the office are arranged subject-wise and year-wise, in order to trace out the files and to deliver the services in time. The panchayat office and other attached offices are connected with Wi-Fi and the connection is opened to the public too.
The village Knowledge centre was created with a reference library and provides preliminary training for school students in Civil Service and other competitive examinations. The centre also conducts classes for Sanskrit, Yoga and cultural knowledge. At present the centre is preparing a directory of history, cultural and the traditional knowledge of the village. Special grama sabha has been called in all wards to consider the environmental issues and priority schemes.
Awareness classes were taken by the experts in the field in these grama sabhas. By the discussions in the grama sabha, various projects in waste management, rain water harvesting, planting of the trees etc. are taken by the panchayat. Yoga classes were conducted at 8 centres for spreading the message that ‘medicines are not the remedy for life style disease’. Ayurveda, homeo dispensaries, sub-centres and a yoga centre are started at the Primary Health Centre Compound.
Not less than 100 girls students are trained in the School Karate Classes of the panchayat. Pain and palliative care and insurance coverage for cancer treatment are also implemented in the health sector.
Suja Kumari, the secretary of the panchayat said that all the activities are implemented with a view of the future. “It is the first stage of all projects. All staff members and members of panchayat help each other for the implementation of innovative ideas. The digitisation of the panchayat is a milestone in governance,” she said.
Jagratha samithi, formed by the panchayat act as a local court for resolving the complaints and petitions raised by the women and children without approaching the judiciary or the police. Samithi holds its sitting on the first Friday of every month and deals with various complaints like maintenance allowance, partition of family property, protection of senior citizen etc.
25 acres of fallow paddy land are cultivated in the panchayat and 1250 numbers of grow bags with seedlings and 4 rain shelters were distributed in the year 2013-’14 to promote vegetable cultivation. The preparation and supply of grow bags function with the help of Labour Bank formed in the panchayat. The panchayat had also implemented a scheme for the rejuvenation of a river Varattar. Varattar is a river that dried around 30 years back. The project of the panchayat helped to clear river path, remove sand and mud and regenerate the water flow .
