THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan on Tuesday lashed out at the UDF and the LDF, stating that both the Fronts have neglected the community on the education front.
‘’At all times, the community was neglected on the education front. We have not been provided enough colleges or Plus One batches,’’ Natesan said at the inauguration of the office of the Pathradhipar Sukumaran Memorial Union and the unveiling of the statue of Sree Narayana Guru.
On the education front, the community was always denied its rights, he said. ‘’The biggest blow was during the time when P J Joseph was the Education Minister in the Congress-led UDF Government,’’ he said and added that the community had lost seats in the schools when Plus One was allotted.
Stating that it was long back, during the LDF regime, that the community had got three colleges, Natesan said and added that they had not got any colleges after this. ‘’We had always approached the ruling front for getting the due benefits. We had even approached Chandy several times and raised our complaints. Though the Chief Minister is willing to take some favourable stance, certain hurdles come in between from some corners,’’ he said and added that the same situation would prevail even if the LDF came to power.
Meanwhile, Oommen Chandy, who inaugurated the meeting, said that he was aware of all the complaints raised by the Yogam. However, he said that the government had done certain things within its limits.
CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishan said that the LDF had always stood with the community. He also mentioned that all the demands raised by Natesan would be looked into favourably if the LDF got a chance.
