ALAPPUZHA:While the smoke and smell of burnt corpses spread in and around Chudukad at Chathanattu, many youngsters gathered for the official release of a Malayalam novel titled ‘Ouija Board’, believed to be the first in the country to be published after being serialised on Facebook.
Written by Akhil P Dharmajan from here, the novel has attracted more than 15,000 readers. Akhil and his friends decided to release the novel in a cemetery on Sunday. Incidentally, there was a cremation in the cemetery in the evening. The new generation youth are propagators of different thinking and to grab the attention of public they avoid usual cliches.
According to Akhil, the story is about an Ouija board, an instrument believed to be used to communicate with spirits. The book deals with devils, crematorium, life after death, and the spirit world, he said.
Akhil is a second year BA English literature student at a private college in Alappuzha. He started serialising his novel on Facebook after creating a page called ‘Katha’ in 2013. The e-novel slowly attracted the attention of people in social media and after many requests from the readers they decided to publish a printed edition .
More than Rs 40,000 was required for printing and it was donated by the readers, said Akhil.
He said that the book tells about the death of eight polytechnic students and the spirits of the departed souls. Akhil added that there were 15 twists in the novel. The success of ‘Ouija Board’ resulted in second fiction novel titled ‘Mercury Island’ and is also viral on Facebook.
