THRISSUR: The investigating officers, who took controversial beedi businessman Muhammed Nisham to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu for gathering evidence in the murder attempt case of security guard, have found assets worth several crores in Bangalore and at Tirunelveli owned by him.
But the officials said they did not get any clues linking Nisham with actor Shine Tom Chacko, assistant director Blessy and two models, who were held with cocaine from a flat owned by Nisham at Kadavanthra in Kochi recently.
The police team that returned to Thrissur on Monday visited the new building complex of the businessman in Bangalore spread over 20,000 square ft which is meant for saloon, gymnasium and similar facilities.
The beedi production unit owned by Nisham in Tirunelveli is spread across two acres of land and nearly 12,000 workers are part of the industry.
The godowns of the unit are similar to the FCI godowns and five such godowns are spread across 10,000 sq ft, police said.
Nearly 10 crore beedi packets are stocked here.
ACP R Jayachandran Pillai who is in charge of investigation told ‘Express’ that the Income Tax sleuths have already started an inquiry into the source of income of the businessman, who reportedly owns two hotels in Dubai.
“We did not get any links regarding his alleged connection with drug dealers during our visit to Bangalore and Tamil Nadu.
“ The Kochi police investigating the smokers’ party held at Nisham’s Kadavanthra flat will be further looking into it,” the police officer added.
Peramangalam CI Biju Kumar, who led the police team that visited the neighbouring states along with the accused, said the businessman had several other assets about which further questioning was necessary.
“So, the police have not yet decided to send Nisham back to judicial custody soon,” he said.
