ALAPPUZHA: The district police have intensified security measures for the Kiss of Love (KoL), the Alappuzha edition of  ‘Chumbana Samaram,’  against fascism on Sunday at the beach.

The protest previously organised at Kozhikode and Kochi gained media and public attention after the protest of various organisations and the participation of onlookers.

The police have not given any consent for the event, but they will not deter the activists, police said. The organisers said that about 500 people will attend the protest, but the police expect a huge turn-out at the venue. The Intelligence Wing of the police has stressed on law enforcement and the police have made elaborate security arrangements in and around the beach, police said. K K Balachandran, District Police Chief (DPC) has said that the police have not given any consent to KoL.

“We are planning to give protection to the activists. Everybody has freedom to kiss, so why should we deny their rights? If anybody intends to to attack them, we will give protection to them,” the DPC said.
