THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The anti-corruption mood will prevail over the ‘sympathy wave’ in the Aruvikkara bypoll, said LDF candidate M Vijayakumar.

“This bypoll is the most crucial one in the history of the state. The victory for the LDF is certain as the state government is neck-deep in corruption. There is no sympathy wave and the current politics will decide the poll outcome,” he said while addressing ‘Keralam Engottu’, the lecture series organised by the Press Club here on Sunday. “Even Congres leaders A K Antony, V M Sudheeran and V D Satheesan are of the view that the government is mired in scams and scandals. The bypoll is an opportunity for the people to register their protest against corruption,” he said.

Vijayakumar said that Aruvikkara ranked last among the Assembly constituencies in the capital in terms of development. The last few years saw several protests from the people for development in the constituency.

The steep fall in rubber prices will also work against the UDF, he said. “The state and Central governments have done nothing to salvage the rubber farmers. Aruikkara has a significant number of population largely dependent on rubber farming,” he said. Vijayakumar said all like-minded parties, including Kerala Congress (B) can support the LDF in the bypoll.
