PALAKKAD:The repair works on the valves in the Malampuzha dam is being undertaken by the divers from Ernakulam and the drinking water supply has been partially restored by Thursday evening.
Palakkad municipal area and the adjoining seven panchayats were being supplied drinking water from the Malampuzha dam.
There were three intake valves of the Kerala Water Authority in the Malampuzha dam. They are located 9 feet below, 40 feet below and the last one 60 feet below the surface. The chains of shutter of the dam broke and fell on one of the valves which led to the closure of the same. The four divers from Ernakulam repaired the valve, which was 9 feet below.
On Wednesday, the divers from Nenmara fixed the second valve which was located 40 feet below. Assistant Engineer of the Kerala Water Authority Venugopal said the repair works will only be completed by Friday.
