ALAPPUZHA:Coming down heavily on the remarks of Idukki Diocese Bishop Mar Mathew Anikuzhikattil, SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan has said the police should register a case against the bishop for his remarks which will destroy the religious harmony.

Vellappally said the bishop is a religious fundamentalist who is spreading poison.

A case should be registered against him based on IPC-153.  These kinds of bishops are not suitable for society and the Catholic Church should decide on whether to retain them, he said.

Bishop Anikuzhikattil on Saturday had said that the girls from Christian community were converted to other religion through inter-caste marriages. He said about 6 per cent of marriages in Christianity are inter-caste. Most of the boys are from other communities and this is against the beliefs of Christianity, he had said while addressing the pastoral council meeting of the Kanjirapally Diocese on Saturday.

He had also remarked that incidents of  Christian girls falling victims to ‘Love Jihad’ and the dubious agenda of the SNDP were on the rise. This statement of the bishop irate SNDP and other organisations and drew flak from the Yogam general secretary.
