KOZHIKODE: A witness in the Marad riot case, in which eight people were killed due to communal violence on Marad beach on May 2, 2003, turned hostile during the trial of two persons accused of being involved in the carnage at the Special Additional District and Sessions Court (Marad cases) at Eranhipalam here on Tuesday.
T Noushad, who was the driver of the vehicle which brought weapons to the area, retracted the statements he had given to the police during probe.
Special judge S Krishnakumar declared him hostile under Section 154 of the Indian Evidence Act. The special Judge has directed the Crime Branch to produce the six witnesses Sugunan, Ambujakshan, Jayendran, Sindu Mohan, Ramanan and Lalu before the court.
