ALAPPUZHA: Cherthala Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-II on Wednesday imposed a fine of Rs 1.96 lakh on Biju Radhakrishan, one of the accused in the Solar Scam, for cheating a businessman from Arthunkal.
If Biju fails to give the amount to the complainant, he will have to undergo six months imprisonment.
Judge K P Sunil pronounced the verdict in connection with the cheating case filed by Dr John Thomas of Meta Tec Energy System Private Limted, Arthunkal, on July 8, 2012.
As per the complaint, Biju gave him a cheque for Rs 1,60,000 in connection with the solar deal. The cheque was in the name of Team Solar and was signed by Biju. John approached the court after the cheque was bounced. He filed a case against Team Solar and Biju. The court directed Biju to give Rs 1,60,000 and an additional Rs 36,000 as interest to the complainant. This is the second verdict passed in a case related to the solar scam. The Pathanamthitta FCM court had sentenced Biju and Saritha for six years in connection with a case.
