THRISSUR:Chemboothra Devidasan, a 40-year-old elephant owned by the Chemboothra Kodungalloorkavu Devaswom, died on Monday, reportedly after battling ‘Erandakettu’ or indigestion for almost 50 days.

Chemboothra Devidasan had earlier been known as Chanassery Balagopalan.

Following the death, V K Venkitachalam, secretary of Heritage animal task force, has filed a complaint that the elephant had been taken for procession in the past two months even after the indigestion had manifested. However, Premchand, the DFO of Social Forestry, claimed that the elephant owners had assured that the jumbo was given complete care and comfort.

“They were not taken out for any kind of procession. The elephant died even after all possible treatment was made available,” he said.
