IDUKKI/KOTTAYAM:Water Resources Minister P J Joseph and senior Kerala Congress(M) leader on Sunday asserted that there was no move to dilute action against Chief Whip P C George.

Joseph told reporters in Thodupuzha that the decision to take action against George was taken by him and party supremo K M Mani.

“There is no going back. The party had taken the right step,” he said.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, on Sunday, reiterated that the UDF would take a decision on the issue after his return from abroad. He refused to comment on a query on whether George has placed any formula before the UDF leadership regarding his exit.

The factionalism within the Kerala Congress (M) took a turn for the worse with the student wing factions, loyal to chairman K M Mani and vice chairman P C George, clashing  at the party headquarters in Kottayam on Palm Sunday morning. KSC (M) district secretary Riyas Ameen, who suffered injuries following the incident, was admitted to the Kottayam District General Hospital.

According to reports, the altercation began during a meeting of KSC (M) held in the morning after leaders, who have allegiance to George, raised the demand for a resolution against K M Mani. The leaders of Mani faction opposed the demand, which led to an altercation and fight between both groups in the meeting.

The  window panes of the office were broken in the clash. While Youth Front and KSC(M) leaders, having an allegiance to Mani, alleged that George’s men were behind the attack against the party office.

In the meantime, both the groups raised provocative slogans. Youth Front (M) and KSC (M) activists burned P C George in effigy and also took out a protest march in the town. Police protection to the office was beefed up  following the incident.
