KOCHI: Scripting a new chapter of shame in the history of Kerala police, a top official of the force was caught cheating while appearing for LLM examination of the MG University at St Paul’s College here on Monday.
T J Jose, Inspector General (IG) of Police, Thrissur Range, was also expelled from the examination hall after he was found copying from bits of paper by the invigilator. The police official has denied the allegations.
Speaking to ‘Express’ V J Peter, vice-principal, St Paul’s College, Kalamassery, said the invigilator in charge of the examination caught the top cop red-handed and handed him over to the authorities. The invigilator was unaware of the fact that the candidate was a senior police officer, he said.
However, the police official managed to take back the seized bits of paper from the invigilator after he was ousted from the hall, said Peter.
Asked whether he would be allowed to write the LLM (Master of Laws) examination of Mahatma Gandhi University on next day, he said, “We have written to the Examination Controller of the MG University detailing the incidents. The decision on barring him from appearing for the examination would be taken based on the report of Controller,” he said.
Kerala DGP (law and order) K S Balasubramaniam said he has instructed ADGP Sanker Reddy to look into the incident and submit a report at the earliest. If the report finds him guilty, he would face departmental action, he said.
‘No Material was Seized’
Speaking to ‘Express’, IG T J Jose, said no material has been seized from him as alleged by the examination staff. “No one had expelled me from the examination hall. I wrote the examination like everyone and went out of the class room only after completing the examination. If they have seized any incriminating materials from my possession as alleged, they should show them to the authorities. I suspect it’s part of a conspiracy to malign my reputation and thereby the Kerala police,” he said. He rubbished reports that he was earlier caught for similar misdeeds and had escaped after tendering an apology.
