KOTTAYAM:In a shocking incident, three members of a family were found with their throats slit at the laundry shop run adjacent to their residence by them at Parampuzha near here on Sunday morning.

The victims have been identified as M K Lalson, 72, a retired health inspector, his wife Prasanna Kumari, 54, an employee of Government Hospital, Kottayam, and their elder son Praveen Lal, 28.

The killer, according to the police, also hit the victims with an axe and electrocuted them to ensure their death.

Lalson’s younger son Vipin Lal, 25, an accountant by profession, was away from the house. According to police, the incident came to light at around 8 am, when the neighbours reached the house after a request from Vipin, who failed to contact his parents and brother over phone.  Police suspect that the crime was committed for gain as gold ornaments - a chain weighing four sovereigns - and two mobile phones are missing from the house.

A migrant labourer who was working at the laundry shop is missing.  The bodies have been shifted to Medical College Hospital morgue here and will be handed over to the relatives after post-mortem examination.  Forensic and finger print experts visited the spot and collected evidence.  Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, Ernakulam Range IG Ajit Kumar, District Police Chief M P Dinesh and other police officials also visited the spot.
