THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to appoint DGP (Prisons) T P Senkumar as the state police chief after the retirement of K S Balasubramanian on May 31.
A 1983-batch IPS officer, Senkumar began his career as ASP Kasargod and served the force in various capacities, including ADGP Intelligence. He had also served as the managing director of the KSRTC, KSBC and Transport Commissioner.
Prior to his IPS selection, he was in the Indian Economic Service. An officer with a clean image, Senkumar had investigated several high-profile cases like the teak, manchiyam, goat and LIS frauds.
Senkumar, who hails from Thrissur, will retire in June 2017. He is credited with initiating several reforms to reduce the road accident rate, achieving a near-break-even in the KSRTC and modernising the Intelligence Wing.
