Kitex Group Wins Kizhakkambalam Panchayat

KOCHI: The 2015 civic polls in Kerala has witnessed a rare incident- a private company has won a panchayat, arguably first time in the country. Twenty20, the CSR initiative of the Rs 1300 crore  Anna-Kitex Group, has swept the Kizhakkambalam panchayat in Ernakulam district with 17 seats in the 19-member panchayat. SDPI and Independent candidates have won each seats. The Twenty20 has also won in Pukkattupadi and  Kizhakkambalam divisions in Vazhakkulam Block panchayat as well.

The speciality of the victory of Twenty20 is that they had defeated UDF, LDF and BJP in the municipality. “The victory is in line with our expectations. In two wards SDPI has blocked us from working there. Which has resulted in failure.  Twenty20 will work towards the dream of making Kizhakkambalam the best panchayat in the country by 2020.

The Chairman of the municipality will be decided on Sunday,” a victorious Sabu M Jacob, Chief Coordinator of Twenty20 and Managing Director of Kitex Garments told Express.

The panchayat was ruled by UDF with 15 seats. The LDF had two members and two Independents, backed by LDF, were also part of the council.

LDF Sweep LSG Polls Across State

THIRUVANTHAPURAM:  In a major setback to the UDF government, LDF has swept the LSG polls across the state with clear-cut majority in the elections to the three different levels of the civic bodies. Interestingly, BJP made inroads in several parts of the state which raised apprehensions to both UDF and LDF.

Of the six corporations in the state,the LDF has won in four corporations while the UDF managed to win in two. BJP emerged as the single largest party in Thiruvananthapuram city corporation by coming at the second position just behind LDF. LDF won in a clear majority in Kollam, Kozhikode and Thrissur while Kannur and Kochi corporation go behind the UDF.

In many of the wards in the six corporations, BJP also came in the second position leaving the rival fronts in a spot.Of 87 municipalities, LDF has won in 45 while UDF won in 40. BJP has won in the Palakkad municipality.In the case of 14 district panchayats, LDF and UDF have a equal share by getting seven districts each.

For block panchayat, the LDF is leading in 92 seats while UDF won in 59 seats and BJP is leading in one, out of 152 panchayats in the state.

Meanwhile, LDF is leading in 540 panchayats while UDF is leading in 369. BJP and independent candidates are leading in 15 and 11 panchayats respectively.

Left Front Retains Kozhikode Corporation With Thumping Majority

KOZHIKODE: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has retained the Kozhikode Corporation with a thumping majority. Of the total 75 wards, left front won in 47 seats with UDF only able to bag 20 seats. BJP has emerged victorious in 7 seats.

VKC Mammed Koya, LDF’s Mayor candidate has won from Areekkad. Two former mayor's Thottathil Raveendran and M M Padmavati, both fought elections in CPM tickets have also won. In UDF camp, KPCC General Secretary P M Suresh Babu won from Paroppadi ward.

LDF Sweep Five of Seven Municipalities in Kozhikode

KOZHIKODE: Left Democratic Front (LDF) sweeps five out of the seven municipalities in Kozhikode district, leaving just two municipalities for the United Democratic Front (UDF). The municipalities were the LDF won are: Koyilandy, with 28 seats, Vadakara with 26 seats, Mukkom (18), Ramanattukara (16) and Feroke (16). The UDF won in Payyoli (19) and Koduvally (17) municipalities. BJP could garner two seats each in Vadakara and Koyilandy municipalities and one each in Feroke and Mukkam.

LDF Rake Spectacular Victories in Five Municipalities

KOZHIKODE: LDF raked in spectacular victories in the LSG polls in five of the seven municipalities even as the UDF claimed victories in the remaining two.

Koyilandi, Vadakara, Ramanattukara, Mukkam, Feroke municipalities became literally a red-fort  as the LDF was swept into power with clear majority. However, UDF sneaked in narrow wins in Payyoli and Koduvally.

LDF wrested power in three of the five newly-introduced  municipalities. UDF’s victory came in the other two new municipalities.

LDF Retains Kozhikode District Panchayat

KOZHIKODE: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) has retained the Kozhikode District Panchayat by winning16 of the total 27 seats. UDF has won 11 seats. Of the total 12 block panchayat’s in the district left front has won absolute majority in 8, whereas UDF bagged 3 bodies, with hung council in one block panchayat. In the case of grama panchayats, LDF emerged victorious in 44 bodies. UDF has bagged 25 panchayats.
