KOCHI:In a rare development in democracy, the Twenty20-CSR initiative by the Anna-Kitex Group won 17 seats in the 19-member Kizhakkambalam panchayat, and in two divisions of the Vazhakkulam block panchayat in the Ernakulam district.
Both the LDF and the ruling UDF failed to win even a single seat in the panchayat.
SDPI candidate Abdul Rahman P M won in Kavungaparambu, while UDF-backed Independent candidate Anoop P H emerged victorious in Chelakkulam.
The outgoing panchayat council was ruled by the UDF, with 15 seats. The LDF had two members, while two members were Independents.
Mini Ratheesh (Ambunadu), Jincy Biju (Malayidam Thuruth), Chinnamma Paulose (Makkinikkara), Adv Vinod K P (Karukulam), Hafiz Hyder Ali (Kummanodu), Shibu Paul (Choorakkodu), Valsa Teacher (Njaralloor), Praseela Eldo (Kunnathukudi), Lalu Varghese (Vilangu), Tishiyola Varghese (Poyyakkunnam), Jincy Aji (Kizhakkambalam), Deepa Teacher (Thamarachal), M V George (Pazhanganadu), Radhamani Dharaneendran (Maliyekkamolam), M P Suresh (Kanampuram), Seena Jerry (Oorakkadu) and K V Jacob (Pukkattupadi) are the councillors of Twenty20 in the Kizhakkambalam panchayat.
Twenty20 candidates Mariyamma John Kochumol and Rashmi Teacher won in the Vazhakkulam Block panchayat.
“Our victory is in line with our expectations. In Kavungaparambu and Chelakkulam, SDPI had prevented us from working there, which resulted in our failure in those wards.
Twenty20 will work towards the dream of making Kizhakkambalam the best panchayat in the country by 2020,” Sabu M Jacob, chief coordinator of Twenty20 told Express.
