KOZHIKODE: SNDP’s planned alliance with the BJP is causing a stir in the state. Less than 24 hours after SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan’s much talked about interaction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi, CPM seemed set to change its rigid stance on various issues. On a day of curious political developments, Friday saw CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan meeting RSP leader and MP N K Premachandran at Kozhikode Guest House.
Close on the heels, CPM state committee member Puthalathu Dinesan seemed to have buried the hatchet with RMP state secretariat member K K Rama as both shared the dais at a function organised in Edacheri, Vadakara to commemorate K S Bimal, who died of lung cancer. Bimal was expelled from CPM for raising voice against the party after T P Chandrasekharan murder and launching a fund collection campaign to complete the construction of TP’s house.
Premachandran told ‘Express’ that the meeting did not have any political significance and it was just a casual and friendly talk. Kodiyeri, however, made it clear that his party does not harbour any hostility towards the RSP, which severed ties with the CPM over the Kollam Parliament seat in last LS polls. “There is no political significance to the meeting. But the RSP always wanted to see the emergence of a front comprising LDF and UDF against BJP,” said Premachandran. “We don’t have any hostility towards the RSP which is with the Left Front at the Centre. There should be some changes in the stance taken by the RSP,” Kodiyeri said.
When asked about the circumstances which led to sharing of dais with the CPM leader, Rama said, “We did not see who all were on the dais. Bimal is close to our heart and we attended the function as a mark of respect to his soul. We will never enter into a deal with CPM.”
