THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan on Saturday quoted an imagery from Thunchath Ezhuthachan’s ‘Aadhyatma Ramayanam’ to criticise the ‘growing bonhomie’ between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan.
The veteran leader was speaking at a public function organised to bid farewell to spiritual leader Sandeepananda Giri, who is scheduled to travel to the United States to attend a religious conference. Giri is slated to interpret Sree Narayana Guru’s ‘Daiva Dashakam’ at the international conference.
“In ‘Adhyathma Ramayanam,’ Ezhuthachan speaks about a frog that struggles for food even when it is being swallowed by a snake,” Achuthanandan said. Likening the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to the snake and Modi to the frog, Achuthanandan said that Vellappally Natesan was the frog’s food.
The leader of the Opposition said that the SNDP Yogam and its leaders had always been a source of inspiration for him. “The SNDP Yogam has not lost its relevance even in the present times. It is an organisation that should be the saviour of the toiling masses,” he added. Achuthanandan alleged that some leaders were trying to steer SNDP Yogam into “anti-people camps”. Such leaders had been thrown into the dustbin of history, he added.
The veteran CPM leader said that ‘Daiva Dashakam’ was the most secular literary work ever in Malayalam.
“Even after a century, the message of Daiva Dashakam’ is being transmitted from one generation to another. This shows the secular and universal aspects of the work,” he added.
