THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: TP 51, a film based on the life of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan, was denied theatres at the last moment, its makers said on Thursday.

“The film was expected to hit the screens in 39 centres, except Vadakara, on September 11. But on September 10 afternoon, we were informed that the film would not be screened in any private theatre,” said Moidu Thazhathu, director of the film.

Moidu said that as of now only six government theatres would be screening the film.

“At 3 pm, our distributor was told by the theatre owners that the release had been blocked. We had distributed the film posters in all theatres  five days ago. But none of them appeared even 24 hours before the release. When we inquired about it, we were told that the film would not be released.”

He added that the theatres backed out at the last moment because of  pressure from the CPM leadership. “We tried to get in touch with the association members, but nobody, including Liberty Basheer, answered our calls,” he added.

Moidu said that if there was no change in the situation they would look for other measures.
