Indian Medical Association Goes Eco-friendly to Dispose of Napkins

Chalking out a better alternative to dispose of the used sanitary napkins, the Indian Medical Association Goes Eco-friendly (IMAGE) is planning to step into the school campuses in the state.

PALAKKAD:  Chalking out a better alternative to dispose of the used sanitary napkins, the Indian Medical Association Goes Eco-friendly (IMAGE) is planning to step into the school campuses in the state.

“Once the incinerator and other facilities at the proposed plants in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi are commissioned,the organisation will collect the used napkins from Girls Schools across the state,” state president of IMAGE Dr V U Seethi,IMA state president and secretary Dr Sreejith N Kumar and Dr A V Jayakrishnan told mediapersons here on Saturday.

As per the available data, on an average around 2.25 lakh tonnes of napkins is being produced by the schools in the state daily and a scientific mechanism to dispose off this is the need of the our. 

As a pilot project to its big initiative, IMAGE is collecting napkins from Manakad Government Girls High School in Thiruvananthapuram.

“We are planning to extend the project to 100 school in three months. The seven acre land owned by IMA in Thiruvananthapuram will be made use for the purpose and we are expecting clearance from the government at the earliest,” the IMAGE office-bearers said. Likewise, IMA have sought 2.5 acres of government land in Brahmapuram to set up a plant.
