KOZHIKODE: Kozhikode DCC president K C Abu has bitten off more than he could chew by suggesting a lewd angle to the acts of LDF MLAs E S Bijimol and Jameela Prakasham amidst the ruckus in the Kerala Legislative Assembly on March 13. Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Abu said, “I feel Bijimol will not have any complaint on what happened inside the Assembly on budget day.
When Shibu Baby John was trying to block Bijimol, she was seen absolutely enjoying it. I am a 62-year-old veteran and I could realise the emotions of the MLAs by watching the visuals. The complaints filed by the women MLAs are politically motivated.” As his derogatory comments sparked off a controversy and sudden protests emerged all over the state, Abu later tendered an apology.
In a press release later on Friday evening, Abu said he had withdrawn his statements unconditionally and apologised publicly for his remarks. Abu had also made remarks against Janata Dal(S) member Jameela Prakasam by asking her why she resorted to biting veteran Sivadasan Nair instead of young legislator P K Basheer, who had a tough physique.
The Left youth outfits, DYFI, AIYF and All-India Democratic Women’s Organisation staged demonstrations and dharna in front of the residence of Abu on Kottaram Road in the city. CPM district secretary P Mohanan urged the authorities to register a case against the DCC president for his comments humiliating womanhood. Subsequently, the KPCC chief directed Abu to withdraw his controversial remarks, else the party would initiate action against him.
Soon after the KPCC president’s statement, Abu said he would abide by the KPCC directive in the matter as he “is an obedient party worker.”
Abu’s Comments Untimely, Says Rosakutty
Kozhikode: “K C Abu should not have used such harsh words against women MLAs. His comments were untimely,” Kerala State Women’s Commission chairperson K C Rosakkutty teacher said on Friday. “The women MLAs have not filed any complaint with the commission. However, from the media, I have come to know that they had filed a complaint with the National Women’s Commission. Normally, the national body will seek a report from us. Usually, we take suo motu action only in the cases of women who are sidelined and alienated in society,” she said, adding that everything could not be determined only through video visuals.
