Swathi Sangeetha Puraskaram for Trichur V Ramachandran

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Veteran Carnatic musician Trichur V Ramachandran has been selected for the Swathi Sangeetha Puraskaram instituted by the Government of Kerala, Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi chairman Soorya Krishnamoorthy announced at the Press Club here on Wednesday.

The award comprising a cash prize of Rs one lakh and citation, will be presented to Ramachandran at a function to be held at the Kanakakkunnu Palace auditorium here on the evening of March 27, Krishnamoorthy said.

Noted actor KPAC Lalitha, violinist M Subramanya Sarma and dancer Kalamandalam Vimala Menon will be presented with the Kalaratna fellowship awards.

Apart from these awards, 20 artistes have been picked for this year’s Kalasree awards while 23 have been selected for the Gurupooja awards. Three artistes will receive the Kalasree awards instituted for overseas artistes while 11 others will be presented with the all-India Pravasi Puraskaram.

The winners of the amateur drama competition, all-India pravasi amateur drama competition and Gulf pravasi amateur drama competition will also be presented with the awards during the function to be held on March 26 and 27 at the Government Guest House at Thycaud and Kanakakkunnu Palace here respectively, Krishnamoorthy said.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Culture Minister K C Joseph, Health Minister V S Sivakumar, Kerala Sahitya Academy chairman Perumbadavam Sreedharan, poet Sugathakumari, actor Madhu and K Muraleedharan MLA will be among those who will attend the award distribution ceremonies.
