THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the Transport Commissioner finally issuing a notification on Saturday, effecting changes in the uniform of KSRTC drivers, conductors and checking inspectors, the state-run transport utility has decided to ‘strictly enforce’ the change from Monday.
According to the notification issued by Transport Commissioner Tomin J Thachankary, the khakhi uniform of drivers and conductors has been changed to navy blue trousers and sky blue shirt or churidhar. The notification also states that the uniform of checking inspectors will be changed to black trousers and half-sleeve white shirt with single pocket.“After discussions with trade union representatives a few months ago, a tripartite agreement was reached to make changes in the uniform. However, it could not be fully implemented from July 1 as the then Transport Commissioner did not issue the necessary orders,” KSRTC Chairman and Managing Director Antony Chacko said on Saturday.According to Chacko, KSRTC had requested the Transport Commissioner to effect the changes in the uniform and had issued a circular in June stating that the changes would be effected from July 1.
The state-run transport utility also claimed to have disbursed the uniform allowance to its employees. While the majority of the drivers and conductors switched to the new uniform, a section of them approached the High Court against the new uniform pattern.According to KSRTC, the High Court had ruled that the change could be affected after orders from the Transport Commissioner. “With the issuance of the formal notification, we will enforce the change with effect from Monday as the employees have already availed themselves of the uniform allowance,” the KSRTC CMD said.In addition to the black and white uniform, a name plate, an emblem and a distinctive flap would also be provided to the checking inspectors, Chacko added.
