KOCHI: The Janata Dal(S) on Tuesday announced candidate list for the five seats the party is contesting in the Assembly election.

The list, which excludes the name of Jose Thettayil who was allegedly involved in a sex scam in 2013, was announced at the JD(S) central committee meeting held in New Delhi.

Instead of Jose Thettayil, who is the sitting MLA, former municipal chairman  Benny Moonjely will contest in the Angamaly Constituency.   Benny was selected by a Panel comprising JD(S) state committee members, including Mathew John and Baby Kurien.   In the other seats, the party has decided to field three of its sitting MLAs- C K Nanu in the Vadakara constituency, Mathew T Thomas in Thiruvalla and Jameela Prakasham in Kovalam. The other candidate is K Krishnankutty, who will be contesting in the Chittoor Constituency.

Earlier, the JD(S) Ernakulam district committee had taken a decision not to field Thettayil in Angamaly. The district committee meeting held last week rejected the ‘Mandalam’ committee’s recommendation to field Thettayil. The JD(S) district committee, meanwhile, recommended a four-member panel to the state committee for Angamaly, comprising names of four probables. The names put forth by the district committee are Benny Moonjely, Mathew John, Baby Kurian and Jose Thettayil.   Thettayil had expressed confidence that he would be included in the final list of candidates.

JD(S) to Field 3 Sitting MLAs
