MALAPPURAM:  Cherusseri Zainudheen Musliyar was always considered as the last word in Islamic jurisprudence and he would be missed by thousands of Sunni scholars who educated under him, Sayyid Munavvar Ali Shihab Thangal said about the deceased  Samastha Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary, on Thursday.

“He was a great scholar and possessed immense knowledge in Islamic rules and practices. If there was any contentious issue, he was the man that we all depended on to get the final solution and his words are considered final,” he said.

‘’His void would be hard to fill. Cherussery Musliyar was one of the most humble men I have ever seen in life. He is a man who had dedicated his entire life to the betterment of religion and society. Cherussery Musliyar had a wonderful record of settling disputes, and many had come to him seeking a solution to problems ranging from religious row to familiar disputes,” he said.

“I had a very good relationship with him and I always regarded him in high esteem. His skill in passing fatwa (rules) on certain controversial matters is praiseworthy. It is for this skill he is best known among the scholars in the state,” Munavvar Ali added.

Meanwhile, the students at the Darul Huda Islamic University, Chemmad, said his loss was one of the hardest for them.

“We will miss him a lot. No one possessed as much religious knowledge as Cherussery Usthad did. ,” they said.  He is a fine leader and his administrative power was vital in the growth of the Islamic university, the said adding that Usthad had kept a huge collection of fatwas he had given on various issues,” the students said.
