KANNUR: The District and Sessions court, Thalassery, on Tuesday asked why CPM district secretary P Jayarajan was afraid of CBI’s interrogation in the Kathiroor Manoj murder case.
The court made the remark while hearing the petition filed by the investigation agency seeking three days’ custody of Jayarajan in the case.
Replying to the remark, Jayarajan’s counsel said that it was not a matter of fear, but the accused is suffering from physical ailment. Challenging the argument, the CBI counsel told the court that Jayarajan’s health condition is satisfactory and he is pretending to be ill.
The court examined the medical report of the CPM leader by a medical team at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
The court also criticised the CBI for not submitting the evidence and documents in the case. While replying to this, the CBI counsel promised the court that the materials would be submitted. But the court did not compel for it. The court will pronounce the verdict on the CBI’s plea on Monday.
Yet another application seeking bail to 15 accused in the murder case will also be considered the court on Thursday.Meanwhile, the Kannur Central Prison authority has decided to shift Jayarajan, who is undergoing treatment at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, to Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, for a detailed check-up.
