KOCHI: PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani has  expressed dissent on the Supreme Court query on restricting women aged between 10 and 50 at Sabarimala temple, on Monday.

In a facebook post, he said the courts should act against those practices which segregates people according to the caste rather than making such remarks which can hurt the sentiments of people.

Personally speaking, “I express my dissent on  the references and statements of the court which hurts the freedom of belief - of any religion be it of Hindu, Muslim or Christian. It is better that opinion on religions matters followed down the ages be decided by the learned or the leadership of the particular religion rather than by a few opinion makers. There are hundreds of places in the country that are restricted even to men because they belong to a lower caste.

Those practices are not part of any belief but are born of some parochial minds. In my humble opinion, at first the honourable courts must air their voice against the wretched practices in our country where infants are thrashed up when they mix up the utensils for mid-day meals in schools,” he said.
