THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government will not shut down any school on the grounds of inadequate number of students on the rolls, Education Minister C Raveendranath said here on Wednesday.

The Minister was responding to queries from mediapersons on the sidelines of the function to release the Medical Entrance ranklist. “We want to retain educational institutions as educational institutions,” he said. “For those schools, the closure of which is currently sub-judice, the court will take a final decision,” he added.

Raveendranath also assured that no teacher will be denied salary in the wake of staff fixation. “The government will decide on redeployment of excess teachers and the financial commitment arising thereof after compiling data. However, no teacher who draws salary at present will be denied pay,” he added.

The Education Minister said that the printing and distribution of school textbooks would be completed by mid-June.
